EMSB Launches the Service to Business Group Division

meeting
Montreal - Tuesday, November 2, 2021

The English Montreal School Board’s Adult Education and Vocational Services (AEVS) department is launching Service to Business Group (SBG), a new division, offering training to businesses and individuals alike.

AEVS and the Human Resources Department have collaborated to create exciting professional development opportunities that are designed to cater to the needs of the EMSB community. The ultimate goal is to expand this Service to Business Group model to the corporate sector within the EMSB territory.

For the launch, the more than 4,000 EMSB employees would be eligible to register for courses on Microsoft Outlook as well as French at the Workplace. These tailor-made, much needed training will be offered in ten (10) evening sessions given online twice a week. Full-time employees will be able to use Professional Improvement Committee (PIC) funds to cover the cost, which is only $100 a course.

EMSB Director General, Nick Katalifos believes this is an excellent initiative. “I commend our AEVS and Human Resources Departments for thinking outside of the box,” he said. “We are fortunate, via our vocational centres and the general system, to have teachers with such a wide variety of expertise. Not only does this benefit our staff, but it gives everyone a chance to upgrade his or her skills and learn new ones. We greatly look forward to expanding this program for companies in our territory whose employees can gain the same benefits.”

The Microsoft Outlook course will focus on avoiding clutter, using templates, importing and exporting data, using mail merge, the effective use of notification and reminders, simplifying scheduling and the use of calendar features and many more important timesaving tips.

Le Français Au Bureau will provide tools to make a workday more professional and less stressful. Lessons will cover basic office French communication skills, government of Quebec correct formulations and etiquette in correspondence, effective use of templates, using Microsoft editing skills and translation applications or websites (which ones to use and how to do so effectively).

Registration is fast and easy. In HR’s email, simply open the flyer of your choice, click on the Registration hyperlink and you’re there. Registration ends Friday, November 12, 2021. Register now! Spaces may be limited.
